π¦ a kid with a dream ( and a dial up connection)
It all started with a curious kid, a clunky computer, and the magic of dial-up internet. Picture this: the late 90s. AOL instant messenger pings echoing through the house, the agonizing wait for images to load pixel by pixel, and the thrill of discovering a whole new world online. For me, those early days weren’t just about chat rooms and pixelated GIFs; they were about the endless possibilities of website creation. Armed with basic HTML and a healthy dose of youthful enthusiasm, I embarked on a journey that would shape my future in ways I could never have imagined.
The late 1990s. The era of dial-up internet, Angelfire, and Geocities. This is where my journey began. Armed with a copy of “HTML for Dummies” and a whole lot of enthusiasm, I dove headfirst into the world of website creation. My early sites? Let’s just say they were a tribute to my Dragonball Z obsession. Think flashy graphics (courtesy of Adobe Photoshop), fan pages, and maybe even a few questionable design choices (hey, we all start somewhere!).
But it wasn’t just about aesthetics. Back then, I was heavily involved in those epic text-based fighting games in AOL chat rooms. Remember those? You’d “battle” other players using commands, and a moderator would declare the winner. Total nerd fest, I know, but it was a blast! And guess what? It inspired me to create websites to track our fight records, kind of like early versions of modern-day gaming clan sites.
The coolest part? I loved bringing my ideas to life, transforming something from my imagination into a real, tangible website that I could share with the world. It was during this time that I also stumbled upon WordPress, and my mind was blown by the possibilities beyond the basic HTML editors on Angelfire. This experience ignited a passion in me that has never faded. It taught me the power of creativity, the thrill of building something from scratch, and the magic of the internet.
π discovering the power of online business
Imagine the early 2000s: the internet was a digital Wild West, full of opportunity and excitement. For a young, ambitious kid like me, it was a playground of possibilities. Forget the dial-up tones and pixelated images; this time, it was all about discovering the power of online business. Enter ClickBank, a bustling marketplace of digital products, and the captivating world of affiliate marketing. This is where I first encountered the idea of earning money online by recommending products I believed in, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer..
ClickBank was a revelation. It was a sprawling marketplace of digital products, from ebooks and software to online courses and membership sites. It was like a digital gold rush, with everyone vying for a piece of the action. Big names like “Google Sniper” were making waves, teaching people how to rank blog posts and drive floods of traffic to their offers. I was captivated by the idea of building sales funnels, crafting compelling copy, and ultimately, earning money by recommending products I believed in.
I devoured every piece of information I could find, studying the sales pages and marketing materials of successful affiliates. I learned about JVZoo, another platform brimming with digital products, and I immersed myself in the world of email marketing, discovering the power of autoresponders (AWeber was the king back then!). I was like a sponge, soaking up knowledge about copywriting, the art of the deal, and the psychology of persuasion.
But there was one major hurdle: I was broke. Coming from a financially disadvantaged background, I couldn’t afford to buy the expensive courses or run the marketing campaigns that I was learning about. It was frustrating, to say the least, to be so passionate about something yet lack the resources to fully pursue it.
Despite this, I refused to give up. I continued to learn, to practice, and to envision the life I was determined to create. I knew that one day, I would turn my passion for affiliate marketing into a reality. This early exposure to the world of online business, despite the challenges, solidified my belief in the power of the internet to create freedom and opportunity. It was a spark that would continue to burn within me, even as I navigated the twists and turns of life.
β Obstacles and opportunities
Life throws curveballs. Sometimes it feels like you’re dodging them left and right, just trying to stay on your feet. This part of my story is about those curveballs β the unexpected twists and turns, the setbacks and struggles that tested my resilience and ultimately shaped who I am today.
High school wasn’t exactly a smooth ride, and health issues forced me to drop out in 2005, just shy of graduation. I got my GED, but the following year was a blur of bad decisions, partying, and a struggle with addiction that led me down some dark paths.
But amidst the chaos, a spark of clarity ignited. I knew I didn’t want to continue down that road. So, in the summer of 2006, I enlisted in the Army National Guard as a 15W UAS Operator. It was a chance for a fresh start, a chance to prove to myself that I could overcome adversity.
Fort Jackson, South Carolina became my temporary home as I embarked on the rigorous journey of Basic Training. Those weeks were a blur of physical challenges, mental tests, and a complete overhaul of my way of thinking. Then it was on to AIT (Advanced Individual Training), where I spent another 20 weeks immersed in the world of unmanned aircraft systems. With intake and waiting periods between training cycles, it was a solid 7 months of intense learning and personal growth.
For a while, I felt transformed. The military instilled a sense of discipline, purpose, and camaraderie that I’d never experienced before. But old habits die hard. When I returned to my unit, I found myself gravitating back towards the same social circles, the same unhealthy dynamics. It was a constant tug-of-war between the person I was trying to become and the familiar comforts of my past.
Navigating that duality β the civilian world versus the military world β was a wild ride. I’m proud of how I held onto the values I learned in the military and stayed true to my oath, even when surrounded by negativity.
But life had other plans. About five years in, I needed a repeat of a surgery I’d had in sixth grade. Complications arose, leading to neurological issues that ultimately resulted in a medical discharge in the summer of 2011.
That’s when I stepped back into civilian life and started working at AT&T. It was a new chapter, a new opportunity to build a stable life and pursue my dreams, despite the unexpected detour.
A couple of years later, life threw another curveball. I became a father, responsible for my girlfriend, our newborn, and her young son. I worked hard at my sales job, providing for my family and creating a stable home. But the demons of addiction resurfaced, leading to a relapse that cost me dearly and brought years of struggle and heartache.
Through it all, the dream never died. Even in the darkest moments, the desire for freedom and the vision of building my own online empire kept me going. It was a flicker of hope that refused to be extinguished, a testament to the enduring power of dreams.
π₯ finally making it happen
Years of dreaming, years of learning, years of setbacks and strugglesβ¦ and then, a breaking point. It wasn’t just a moment of clarity; it was a culmination of years of frustration, of feeling stuck in a cycle of self-sabotage and unfulfilled potential, of one thing after another going wrong just as things started to look up, of relationships and experiences that turned out to be illusions. I was tired of living a life that didn’t align with my dreams. I was done with self-doubt, done with settling for less. I was going all-in, no matter what. I would reshape everything into the life I had always dreamed of, and nothing would stop me from making it happen. This is the story of how Empire Forged was born, and how I finally started turning those long-held dreams into a reality.
In January of 2024, I set out to build the foundation of what would become Empire Forged. It wasn’t a completely spontaneous decision. For years, I’d been brainstorming business ideas, jotting down names, and even taking a few tentative steps toward entrepreneurship. But something always pulled me back β that burning desire to crack the code of affiliate marketing and build the online income I’d craved for so long.
In the years leading up to 2024, I knew something had to change. I couldn’t keep showing up as the same person, with the same self-limiting beliefs and patterns, and expect a different outcome. So, I embarked on a journey of personal development, devouring podcasts and books by the greats like Jim Rohn, Bob Proctor, Tony Robbins, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, and countless others.
I was determined to break free from the negativity that had held me back for so long β the negative self-image, the failed relationships, the poor choices. I dove deep into understanding trauma, facing my past, and learning how to create lasting change. And I started applying those lessons to my life, day in and day out. It wasn’t easy, and it’s still an ongoing process. But I was committed to becoming the best version of myself, the person I knew I could be.
By the time 2024 rolled around, I had a decent job that provided the financial stability to invest in my dream. I finally had the resources and, more importantly, the mindset to make Empire Forged a reality.
The fact that you’re reading this right now is a testament to that commitment. I’m living proof that with perseverance and a willingness to grow, we can achieve those long-held dreams.
But Empire Forged is about more than just my journey. It’s about creating a community for others who resonate with my story, who see themselves in my struggles and triumphs. It’s for those who have felt lost, alone, and trapped by self-doubt, but who refuse to give up on their dreams.
Together, we can break free from those limiting beliefs and build the lives we deserve. We can learn from each other, support each other, and inspire each other to reach our full potential.
This is my call to you: join me on this journey. Let’s make those childhood dreams a reality. Let’s prove that people like us, the ones who have been knocked down but refuse to stay down, are built to last and forged to lead.
